Where on earth you get the idea of an ear being simply used as a 'sexual orifice' is... beyond me.<br /><br />Jumper--grammatical understanding alone--that is incorrect: "I'm just a modern guy" refers to the opposite of his proposed being on the 'vanguard of the cutting edge,' his [often romanticized] rampant lifestyle, as most guys do not lead such lives; it is a reference to conforming, hence the entire song being about giving up such things as liquor and drugs. To break it down, simply, the song has past and present representation: where he describes his past life of destruction and substance abuse, having "had it in the ear before," which defines his present (having giving up these things) where he is "just [simply] a modern guy." I think Mr. Archambeau had a much more 'logical' understanding of the "modern guy," and made a few good points, despite his frolicking over the 'ear bit.'Bradhttp://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/profile.php?id=1556562033&v=infonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8052308.post-55513653446080830042009-09-21T22:31:02.599-05:002009-09-21T22:31:02.599-05:00I can't agree. By "I'm just a modern ...I can't agree. By "I'm just a modern guy" Iggy means that he has taken large doses of LSD and swam with sharks at midnight; ridden motorcycles on the mountains of the moon, flown through space at incredible speeds while every creature, every living thing that ever lived or ever WILL live has penetrated his flesh sensuously, with multicolored musical tongues of knowledge.<br /><br />It's a simultaneous thing: although he knows he's far, far advanced evolutionarily compared with Mr. Gray Flannel Dwarf, he also knows there are a million guys like him - modern guys - out there. He's both the vanguard of the cutting edge, and just one of the (modern!) guys.Jumperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11794110173836133321noreply@blogger.com
